The story of Michael Pendragon Michael's tale begins in the village of Clevare, located near the southern base of the Massif Orcal. Being that this mountain range is inhabited by foul Orc and Goblin hordes, the town is frequently a target of raids. During one particular raid the brave Knight Bartalamue was slain by the vile Orc Warboss Armrippa. The village managed to repel the raiders, but without a Knight to defend it, it was in dire peril. The young men of the village all took up arms to earn the title of Knight...but never returned. Then came Michael, the village stable boy. A tall, skinny lad, the sight of him in his battered, old armor, and carrying his chipped sword caused everyone who saw him to burst forth with great laughter. He ignored the jeers and jests, strode boldly to the Village Square. He knelt before the fair maiden Gabrielle, and asked her to make a challenge for him to complete. She thought for a moment, then with a slight grin said, "Your task young sir, will be to slay the vile beast Armrippa." Michael nodded, "It shall be done oh fair Gabrielle." And with that he took her hand, kissed it, and rode off towards the Massif Orcal. Many weeks had passed, and everyone knew for sure that Michael had failed. How could this mere stable boy, kill the very beast that defeated a full-fledged knight? Then on one fateful day Michael marched into town, his old horse having died on the adventure. He carried a large sack with him. On entering the square, he opened it and dumped its contents on the ground. It was none other than the head of the Warboss Armrippa! With his task complete, he wed the fair maiden Gabrielle, and was assumed to live happily ever after. This was not to be.... It was a dark and snowy winter's night. Rumors of an Orc warband ran rampant through the village. Two villages were said to have already been devastated, and Clevare was next in the Warband's line. The lookouts were doubled, the villagers holed up in their cottages, and the few men-at-arms the village could muster were ready. Then suddenly, Orcish warhorns echoed in the distance. The small village army stood ready as the Orc forces appeared over the ridge. It was obvious the villagers were outnumbered by many hundreds, but they stood their ground as the Orcs surged down the hill into the wall of defenders. Michael hacked and slashed his way through the Orc lines, and many fell to his blade or were trampled by his mighty steed. In the end though, the Orc numbers proved too great, and every last man, woman, and child were massacred...save for Michael himself. He chased the Orcs far across the lands, till he lost them in a dark, misty swamp. Defeated, he returned to his home. Its peacefulness disappeared as he now watched every building burn to the ground. He searched for his wife's body, to at least give her a fitting burial, but it was no where to be found. Then a party of knights approached, in hope to stop the warband. They saw Michael rummaging through the ruins, having failed in his knightly duties as defender of the village. Michael was immediately stripped of his heraldry and forced to accompany them Couronne to receive his task of regaining his honor. He is now in the service of Guindiline, the very sister of his lost love Gabrielle. Only she can say when his honor is regained. Every battle she sets his task, which he attempts to accomplish with great fervor. His secret desire is to someday find out what happened to his wife that fateful night, and why her body was not to be found.
Equipment: Sword, Heavy Armor, Shield, Lance, Barded Bretonnian Warhorse (w/ Barding) Magical Items: Ogre Blade, Potion of Strength Knightly Virtues: Questing Virtue, Knightly Temper Special: Out of Favor with the Lady of the Lake (See Below) Michael is a dishonored knight, and dishonored knights are not in favor of the very embodiment of honor and virtue. If the Bretonnian player summons the blessing of the Lady of the Lake before the battle, the curse falls on the ranged weapons of the enemy as normal, except when targeting Michael. The weapon(s) in question are unaffected by the curse when targeting him. As for the enemy having the first turn as the Bretonnian army kneels and prays, Michael also prays, the Lady of the Lake just doesn't grant his prayers. Dishonored: Michael may never join any unit of Knights or other Bretonnian regiments, as no one in Bretonnia would be led by a knight without honor. Honor Quest: In order to regain his honor, Guindiline (the woman he's in service to) sets a task for him. Before each battle roll a d6 and consult the following chart to see what is the enemy he must face. 1: The enemy general 2: Highest level enemy wizard 3: Most expensive free roaming character (hero, etc.). If no free roaming enemy characters, count this as a roll of a 4 4: Largest unridden enemy creature (most point value). If none, count this as a roll of 5 5: Most expensive enemy field weapon (cannons, catapults, etc.). If there are more than one at the same cost, chose randomly. If none, count this as a roll of 6 6: Most expensive regimental champion. If more than one at same point value, chose randomly. If none, Guindiline sees that the enemy has nothing dangerous enough to defeat that will have Michael regain his honor.
