The 2nd Battle of Brenmark

The city of Brenmarc
Planet of Lrac
Dark Eldar and Orks battle to determine who will reach the hidden Mechanicus complex.

Summoned by a probe sent to listen for the telltale signatures of ancient technologies, a raiding force from the Dark Eldar Kabal of the Midnight Sun had entered the city of Brenmarc through an ancient warpgate, fully intending to swoop down on the Mechanicus complex hidden there.

However, a Chaos force was also making their way through the city. The Archon knew he would have to eliminate this threat. With his powerful dark lances and disintegrators stymied by the cover provided by the city’s buildings, the Archon’s force fell back.

Mere days later, desperate for the technology hidden within the city, the Kabal had returned to the planet of Lrac to quickly loot the Mechanicus complex. Instead of sweeping through the packed heart of the city like last time, this time the Dark Eldar looped through the less dense outlying regions, hoping to avoid any other competitors for the prized Mechanicus complex. The Archon planned to save his force’s strength for the marines guarding the complex. This was not to be, as a sizable contingent of orks closed in from all over the fringes of the quarter.

Under the whips of the slavers, grots hastily set up their kannon. The warboss, not exactly hiding behind the kannon, sent a hardboyz mob up his left flank to clear out the eldar with all the pointy bitz. He followed behind them, leading a mob of the boyz. From his right flank, massive mobz of boyz and stikbommas slogged forward. Quickly hiding themselves on a tower, the kroot mercenaries he had hired took aim with their hunting rifles.

The Archon cursed his bad luck. Orks, and tons of them! Fortunately most of them were not in buildings. Unfortunately, his raiding force was equipped to deal with small numbers of heavily armored Space Marines, not large numbers of poorly armored Orks. At least his wyches had remembered their plasma grenades this time!
If he could prevent the orks from taking control of too many buildings, the Archon could force the orks to flee as their warboss would be forced to pull out before he lost too many boyz.

Dispatching his scourges and foot squads of warriors forward, the Archon directed murderous splinter cannon fire on the hardboyz, quickly removing them from his right flank. Fearful that the kannon fire could take down his raiders, he directed his dark lance armed raider squads to hammer the kannon. Unfortunately, this was dicey as many shots were wasted on weedy grots. Eventually all the kannons were felled.

As the giant mobz of boyz on the left flank slowly moved forward, the reaver jetbikes and raiders fired on the sniper kroot, reducing their numbers. Dumping himself and his wyches into the boyz mob on his right flank, the Archon actually made headway in smashing a mob – until a second mob joined in and quickly chopped up the wyches.
Massed fire from the orks eventually felled two raiders. As the small raider squads, now on foot, fell back from building to building, the ork mobz finally caught and mangled them.

At the end, the warboss had succeeded in grabbing enough buildings to force what was left of the Dark Eldar raiding force to flee from Brenmarc.

Back in Commoragh, the chief haemonculous once again scooped the remains of his Archon into a revivification tank. As Archon Umbra emerged from the tank, he knew it was too late to return to Brenmarc.
