Acknowledgments

It is utterly impossible to finish a story of this considerable length without help from outside, so here’s the roll of honour:

The long line of English teachers that began with Teresa Sufrin, proceeded through Mrs Sykes (whose first name escapes me) and to a lesser extent Amanda Copson, then on to Jules Wilkinson, John Bowden and Caroline Sheridan. Thanks a lot, you lot!

James Smith for providing a shoulder to lean on, a ‘man in the street’ who actually wants to read my stuff, and generally being my best friend.

Kim Bruun of www.imperial-literature.com for accepting the first Black Templars story long ago, and asking for more. You’ve got the first two thirds of a trilogy now; do you realise what you’ve done, you silly Scandinavian?

The authors, readers, artists and lurkers of Imperial Literature and the Black Library e-group for providing so much useful advice, and constructive criticism. Extra-big thanks to Adam McLaughlin for being such a good foil for my nastiness.

Everyone at Games Workshop Plymouth, especially Luke and Kate (wherever you’ve got to)

And finally to Mike Fine, Edd Major, Jon Bulpett, Sean Kennedy, Phil Davies, Dan Franco, Chris Hawkins, Dave Eccles-Ambrose and Rob Jones; why, because you’re great, that’s why. Oh, and Tony Robertson for letting us use his classroom.

 Dedication

Michael Andrew Disley – this might just cheer the miserable git up a bit, and anyway he’s been the most motivating person throughout the development of this tale, providing me with a much-needed excuse to write. If you think I’m good, you should read some of his stuff. Really. Just remember; none of it is real…
