The Stormwing Jedi Family History

The Stormwing family is a well-respected Jedi family in the Republic. There is usually a Stormwing on the Jedi Council, or at least close enough to the Council to offer advice on issues before the Council.

The Stormwing family has many traditions separate from the normal Jedi practices.

The ability to sense the Force in the Stormwing family always manifests itself in the males of the family. However, the ability is passed through the female of the family. No one knows why this is so, but it has made both sexes equally important in the family, and has lead to the family tradition of uncle training nephew.

Their main focus is defending those unable to defend themselves. If someone is taking advantage of another, he must be stopped. If someone is harming another, he must be stopped. This is the main point of what they call the Defender’s Oath, and they will do as they can to fulfill it. Those who take this oath are Jedi Guardians, and the rest are Jedi Consulars who take a similar, but less demanding oath and fulfill the need for Consulars in the family.

Another tradition of the family is similar to one of the Corellian Jedis’. Each Stormwing Jedi is given a medallion upon becoming a padawan. This medallion has engraved upon it all the names of the Stormwing Jedi, past and present. When the padawan is elevated to the title of Jedi Knight, his name is inscribed on his medallion first, and then each member of the family’s medallions has the name added. Some think this practice hastened Vader’s search to eliminate the Stormwing Jedi, but in fact, stolen computer records contained far more information than these simple medallions.

The lightsabers built by the members of the Stormwing family vary in construction as any other, but the Jedi Guardians’ lightsabers tend to have a bright silver blade which emits a pure white light. The Jedi Consulars of the family create lightsaber blades with varied colors, though a silver core can still be seen in the blade if one looks closely enough. Again, the reason for this is not known, though it is expected the family’s unusual way with the force combined somehow with their oath imbue the crystals used in constructing the lightsaber with this purity.

At the time of the Rebellion, only Joraan Stormwing, Maaltan Stormwing’s nephew, is the only remaining Jedi of the Stormwing house. His training begun by his uncle, now lost to the Empire’s Jedi hunters, Joraan struggles to learn more of the ways of the Force and help defeat the Empire and bring peace to the galaxy once more. Unless he can locate a female member of the Stormwing family, possible since they are not Jedi and would not have been so strenuously hunted, Joraan will remain the last Stormwing who knows of his family’s heritage.
