Rashidi Khenemethoth
Background

Frank and Anne Jones lived on a small planet on the fringe. The planet was host to many different species, a melting pot of the galaxy. The two olive-skinned “humans” fit in easily. The couple had a young boy they named Jack with them. He was very bright and inquisitive, with a great thirst for knowledge, and loved school. He enjoyed learning every subject, but his favorites seemed to be sciences. He was a natural with computers and gadgets of every kind.

As he grew, he discovered abilities none of his friends seemed to have. His parents warned him to keep them to himself, but he was curious and so began researching his background. His parents had called themselves “Akourians”, but never explained what this meant. Now Jack had to discover what this was.

Before long, Jack had found out everything he could about Akourians and all of their culture and traditions. He also found out about the Teleri and why he had the powers he did. His parents warned him that he would be taken from them if anyone found out about him, and he agreed to hide his abilities.

He grew older, and found a new favorite subject – medicine. He began his studies, and found himself to be very good at it. He was allowed to help in the local clinic, and learned much about the many species on the planet. He also found that his special abilities could enhance his treatments.

It was during this time that Jack’s parents died. They were young, but it was from natural causes. A disease common to their species was the cause, and Jack knew that if they were on their home planet, his parents would have lived, though he would not have been with them. Jack tested himself, and found himself to be clear of the disease.

With his parents gone, Jack began following the Akourian customs he had learned so much about. He even changed his name to an Akourian one, Rashidi Khenemethoth. He had little money to continue his medical training, and he wanted to attend a better school, so he enrolled in the Imperial Naval Academy. There he learned much more than medicine, though he was slated for a Med-Sci position.

His first assignments were exploration missions, and these he enjoyed greatly. Promotions came, and he was eventually assigned to military bases and stations for his medical expertise. It was here he enjoyed his job the least. He liked helping the wounded, for he was saving lives, but some of the stories he heard from laughing soldiers chilled him. He was also forced into some activities he hated. The Empire’s idea of research in the field of xenobiology was horrifying. He had to get away from this, but still he did not want to leave the Navy, as it was still his best chance to learn and explore.

So, knowing he could take it no longer, he researched the various available positions and found the one he would be least likely to encounter these situations. He approached his superior for a transfer, but was refused. Rashidi was just too good at his job. However, Rashidi had been studying and practicing more than medicine, and with a little “persuasion”, he was on the next transport to Ikanos Station with a fresh promotion to Lt. Commander as the new Med-Sci Chief. With all the space traffic there, he would be sure to see and learn much.
